Whilst recently in Riga I also visited the city's Radio and TV Tower, which is the tallest structure in the Baltic countries and in the European Union. It was built between 1979 and 1986 with funding from the central government of the Soviet Union. Its highest point reaches 368.5 m (1,209 ft), which makes it the third tallest tower in Europe. This video features views of the tower from Zakusala Island, which is located in the middle of the Daugava River, approximately 2 miles South east of the City centre. The video then features views over Zakusala, the Daugava River and the city of Riga and its suburbs. This footage is near dusk in January, so the light conditions are not great.
